    application to design relationships

Is there a simple, free application for building relationships without actually building tables? Just for design purposes?
I have been using Word but I'm sure there's something better out there.

    Thanks

There are several software products that support "drawing boxes and lines" generally. I think what you are really asking is -"Is there a software tool for assisting with data modelling and database design."
For example, M$oft's Visio supports data models and more. There was a free, community version of ErWin that I used for years --however they dropped that a couple of years ago.
There is a free product called Draw.io that supports various drawing needs.
There is a community edition of Visual Paradigm that supports several approaches ERD, UML etc.

Toad has a freeware product for personal use. This graphic is derived from Toad.
There are several links and youtube videos on various products.

As you are probably aware, Reltionships are a reflection/implementation of Business rules.

I like Smart Draw for modeling. It's only drawback is files cannot be imported into Visio.

I use Enterprise Architect from Sparx systems. It's cheap and has, beside the class mode,l a range of tools to make a complete UML analysis: for instance you can create user interface, use case, component, deploy models and so on. https://sparxsystems.com/
