I've not used ftp in this way but my understanding is it is similar to one drive etc in that it is a 'File Transfer Protocol' not a sharing one so my guess would be that it won't work, but if it does, you may have issues if the BE is shared with other users.

with regards the actual linking, you should just need the path to the BE which will need to include the FTP address.

VPN is usually slow if the Access front-end is not optimized to reduce the amount of data transfered (similar to using a SQL back-end). Best results are usually achieved with remote desktop\terminal server using Microsoft or Citrix products.

Thank you guys for your replies, so would i need to download and install some terminal software and locate the BE file via an IP or something along these lines ?

The connection from the pc should already be on your machine - click on the windows icon and search for 'remote desktop'. Where you need to install software is on the server - terminal server. But it is a licenced product so has a cost. Most of my clients who use it use the services of a host to manage it for them. google 'terminal server' to find out more. ideally choose a supplier who has servers located near you (i.e. same country) for best performance.
