If I could put it another way it would be that typically, you use one thing but show another. Often 2 or more columns are used in a combo but the first one is hidden and it may be bound to a unique field. So the user sees what you want them to but not what you need. When user selects "Courtland" the corresponding value stored in the table is (e.g.) "apple", or perhaps a numeric id of 5. Does that help?

I would also point out that you have EmailSelect as a boolean field in tblContactType and as text in tblContacts (no less that 255 characters as well?)
That would trip me up further down the line, if I got them mixed up.? I tend to keep same named fields the same type?
