It could be a graphics driver issue?
Have you tried a repair of the office install as well?
Clutching at a few straws here, but if it's machine specific that's a step forwards.

It gets weirder. It's something to do with my external monitor. It works fine on the laptop as long as the external monitor isn't attached. I'll get onto my IM department, clearly a general issue not an access issue. I have the same problem with DOORS. Thanks anyway all
