splitting database - the database engine could not lock table 'Materials' because it is already in u

I have followed all instructions on how to split a database so that multiple users can use at once. When I initiate the Access Database > Database Splitter & pick "Split Database" it requests the a file location to save to. Once I do that (I pick a location on my hard drive) it throws up this message "The database engine could not lock table 'Materials' because it is already in use by another person or process". I don't have any database open on my hard drive nor any network drives. I have tried many suggestions found on internet searches, but have had no success. Hoping someone on this forum can help. This is greatly needed in my organization. I appreciate any help in advance.

Perhaps the table is referenced in a startup form or function.
Close your database. Check that the lock file has been deleted automatically.
If not, try and delete it manually or if necessary use Task Manager to kll it.

Now reopen your app with the shift key held down to bypass any startup code
Then try the splitter wizard again

sometimes if a db is closed improperly such as powercut/loss of link/code in a perpetual loop some locks still exist. Often these can be cleared using task manager to close a db but sometimes, you simply need to log out of windows and log back in again.
