    Splitting the database key aspects

    Hi everyone,

We've tried to split our database - we have a back end file with user data and passwords; and a back end file with the actual data for a study we're doing.

We successfully split the database, tables are linked and we built forms and queries on the front end.
Now when we tried to put different users using it we have a "Could not save; currently locked by another user" error. Is there any key aspects that we're missing? We've placed people with full control on the distributed files, we tried copying the distributed files to the desktop, the advanced settings on the options are also allowing Shared status instead of Exclusive. "Open Database by using record-level locking" is also ticked.

    Kind regards

You should have one backend db and one copy of the front end on each users machine, with each front end linked to the tables in the backend.

are you SURE you issued a Front End to EVERY person? They cannot share, each gets their own copy of FE.

At the moment we're testing with just 2 people, me and a colleague. We copied the FE (Which was left as a read-only!!) and pasted it on the desktop.

We built the database together, so we both followed the same instructions (not that well it seems, otherwise it would work, ha!)

But you are not making it clear, well not to me anyway, if it was copied to the machine of each user.

Ah! yes it was, he copied it to his own desktop and me to mine!
    Sorry, it wasn't clear.

Yes, that's the thing, we tried to troubleshoot this and we're out of ideas haha. He has this on his own desktop, I have it on mine, it's linked on a server that we both have access to, and it does not work...

We tried to search more stuff and we are reading through the error 2950, which pops up after saying that the entry is locked by another user.
Would this be a reason? We wouldn't believe this, as the content is enabled and if we are using it individually we are able to write and open forms just fine.

Hi It would be best if the Copy of the FE was placed into a folder on the Users C: Drive Documents Folder.

Also this location should be made a Trusted Location
You can PM me if you need further help.
