    Database very slow

    Access DB friends,
I have an Access Database (FE local while BE in a server). While in the past when everyone is working in the office, it is not very fast sometimes but tolerable. Now, we are working from home due to COVID19, and everyone is using that via VPN, it is extremely slow. What can be done? What causes that?

Additional Questions: 1. would combining the FE/BE into 1 file help? 2. I read converting it to SQL will help great deal but I am a one man show, so, it cost too much to put on a SQL server, my company won't support that. 3. I do routine compact of the BE database and it does not help much.

    Thank you in advance.

    Sincerely,

    Perry

The internet is considerably slower than a LAN so I doubt you will ever get the performance you like until you go to a remote terminal type structure with a citrix type product.

Well, this is not very encouraging! Ahhhh... would Sharepoint helps in this regard? If so, how to go about installing Access on Sharepoint?

Not really. The problem is moving data across a network.
Doesn't matter where it is, if it's remote then your front end needs to be designed to accommodate the fact that you need to minimise traffic.

Jack Leach has also written some excellent articles on this subject, have a search for him at UtterAccess.
