Why do some of my queries have Search with greyed out Replace?

I'm working mainly with a database created by Legacy Genealogy program. I've accumulated many queries over the years and recently was doing edits with queries. After some recent tweaks to a few update queries I now can't edit from the query and Replace is greyed out from Search. Other queries in the same DB are still editable. It is frustrating me.
I just joined this group and would greatly appreciate any guidance.
    Thanks, Richard

What were these 'tweaks'? Are you saying data is not editable through query in datasheet view?
How to attach file: http://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=70301 To provide db: copy, remove confidential data, run compact & repair, zip w/Windows Compression.

suspect your tweaks have made the query uneditable.

if you are talking about a select query, if the tweaks are minor, what sometimes works is to go into the query properties and change the recordset type from dynaset to dynaset - inconsistent updates.

Thanks for your replies June7 and Ajax,
I'm beginning to question my sanity as I checked backups from 1 to 3 months ago and all these select queries are un-editable.
The un-editable queries were created by joining 6 Legacy tables (They are basically 5 clones with 1 different criteria.)
I have dozens of other queries mostly with 3 to 5 tables that I can edit.

joining that number of tables will make it uneditable. It also depends on what fields you are selecting and types of joins

OK! I'll accept that (reluctantly) and make edits in Legacy instead of Access. It's still a useful query for viewing anyway
