Spit data base using shortcuts do distrubute the front end ???

    Hi

We have a split access db that multipile users can use but on saying that there are never be more than five users every using it . This is due to rota changes etc. The DB works well but I note rather that dirtubuting font ends to all users its just shortcuts that's in the folder for the front end. Surely this means all users are actually coming through one front end and on to the back end rather than having there own front ends on there actual pc. Or is it that when the shortcut activates the access program on there PC its in reality creating a front end.?

I would say you're correct, everyone is running the same copy. They should each have their own copy.

all my users have a folder on the network, with their FE in that.
this way I can deliver updates to all at once, and they do nothing but click their desktop shortcut.

ranman, everyone gets their own FE file, but they are all stored on a remote computer? Is it the same computer that the BE is on? Is it preferable to keep front ends on the same physical computer as the back end?

How does wifi networking factor into this? I know I've read somewhere about access developers not guaranteeing reliability for use over wifi.

In my opinion, ideally the FE is on the user's computer, not a server. If it's on a server, you're not only moving data across the network but the objects themselves (forms, reports, etc).

Access does not play well with wifi. It often causes the BE to corrupt. My understanding is that it's because of dropped packets, but I'm no expert.

I'd start with Daniel's page and when you're warmed up, Albert's (link in Daniel's):
