    Split Databases

Hi, I have a database which I have split front end and back end. When some users are accessing the front end, it is locking the database - both front and back. It doesn't happen every time a user is in the database - seems very ad hoc as to when it happens. Does anyone have any ideas how I can prevent this happening. I had used a similar set up last year and it worked fine once we had ironed out teething problems for users being able to access it but never had this issue arising.
    Any help greatly appreciated.

Does each user have their own individual FE? That is a requirement. If they are accessing a common FE - then this is your problem.

If they do each have their own FE; Is the nature of your application put high probability that multiple people will be writiing in the exact same record at the exact same time? This is more difficult to manage but can be handled in most cases with some design considerations.

Thanks NTC, you have jogged my memory that I should have sent the shortcut to people for the front end instead of having them accessing the same network file. Will remember for next use
