Adding field to a table in a split database, but I can't find or use the field in the front end

    Hi all,

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have a split database with multiple tables on the backend. I added a field to one of the tables, saved, closed the back end. Refreshed the table in the linked table manager and still cannot add the field to a form on the front end. When I click on the linked table in the front end, the new field is not there. When I go back into the back end, it is.

I recently added an entirely new table to the back end and was able to make it available to the front end without problem. Does anyone know what's tripping me up here?

    Thank you.

are you sure you are linked to the correct backend?

and have you tried relinking rather than refreshing?

Thanks for the reply- I am definitely linked to the correct backend.

If I relink, I get a whole new copy of the table in the frontend and will have to go through and edit all existing forms to now link to that new copy, yes?

No - providing the name of the linked table is the same. What I do is

    1. new link to table - it will append _1 as a suffix
    2. rename the new linked table as the old linked table
    3. you will be prompted to delete the old table - click yes

tip: Although it has it's benefits, it is generally advised to turn off name tracking (untick the boxes in File>Options>Current Database - Name Autocorrect Options). See this link to find out more https://www.utteraccess.com/forum/in...wtopic=2039539

if it is turned off, you could just delete the old table and relink.

Is your backend db password protected? that can sometime stop refresh from working

    Hmmmm,
Whenever I make changes to the BE, either adding, editing or deleting field name(s), I click on "External Data" in the menu and click on "Linked Table Manager".
Check the box(es) for the table(s) you want to refresh.
DO NOT check the check box at the bottom of the dialog - "Always prompt for new location".
Clicking on "OK" refreshes all of the selected linked tables.
