    "Could not use . . . . file already is use"

    I am on Windows 10, Build 1903, MS Office Pro Plus 2019 - 64 bit
    Working on a stand alone, single user laptop. I am the admin

    I cannot perform any of these tasks;
    Compact & Repairs
    Back Up Database
    Save the DB with a different name to any folder
    Save As to a different directory
    Save As with a different DB format

    but these tasks can be executed without issue on a friend's laptop (also Win10 with Office 2019) using the same file.

    In all cases I get the error "Could not use . . . . file already is use"

    I've read a number of articles and threads but have not come across anything that describes what I have.

    Database is NOT split and it is NOT on a server. Running standalone

    When I open an Access DB the laccdb file DOES get created, so it's not create access issue. I notice that the laccdb file disappears when I perform any of the above tasks, but immediately comes back when I clear the error message.

    Any advice or direction would be greatly be appreciated

    Larry

    These can be tough to solve. Did you open the laccdb file you speak of to see how may entries are in it? IIRC, all of these operations require Access to close the db, perform the operation and then re-open the db. If the lock file has 2 entries in it, one of them is a left over if no one is actually in it. I haven't seen this happen when the db is in a local directory but I have seen issues with the lock file when the db is in a network directory, even when not split.

    I'm assuming there are no folder permissions issues for you (you need the whole 9 yards - create/read/write/modify/delete) and that it's not about Trusted Locations either.

    Sometimes stuff just breaks inside. Maybe create a new Blank database, then import everything from original and see if it all works and you can perform those functions?

    But the same file works for someone else? Or did I misunderstand that part? Don't think you can have corruption for one person and not another.
