    Getting 3706 Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed when vb.net went

    We have an existing VB.Net 2017 app that has been running for years on Windows 7. It was using an access database.

    The system was updated and now it is Windows 10 and the database is 2019. If fails on both a 32 bit and 64 bit office and 64 bit access 2016.

    Error
    3706 Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed

    The app is 32 bit and must stay 32 bit.

    Connection string first tried
    Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;Data Source=C:\ATX QBFILES\xxxxxx.mdb;
    then tried
    Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.15.0;Data Source=C:\ATX QBFILES\xxxxxx.mdb;

    I am at a loss to understand exactly what it is missing.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks and Happy Holidays to all.

    Access 2016 is Office version 15 so I would expect Access 2019 to be higher?

    Sorry but that's incorrect.
    Office 15 was the 2013 version.
    Both Office 2016 and 2019 (along with 365) are Office 16.

    Ahh, OK. I looked in my C drive, saw Office 15 and quit there. Yet I'm using Access 2016.
    Regardless, OP says using 2019 yet is referencing 15 so I'd still expect the reference number needs to be higher.
    EDIT - finally found some info but it's conflicting. Wikki says 2019 is version 16. PC Magazine says it's 17. Go figure.

    It also fails on my office 2016 system so it is not just an office 2019 issue. I think it is something more basic than that.

    This FMS link is often referenced re Access history.

    QuickBooksDev have you tried any Quickbooks communities for assistance.

    I'm not sure what this is in terms of Quickbooks, but recent Access databases (2007 and forward) are xxxxx.accdb. Older Access databases are xxxx.mdb. This may have no bearing on the issue, but is an observation.

    No, the access database has nothing to do with QuickBooks itself. We are reading the access database and putting orders into QuickBooks. But now with W10 and either Access 2016 or 2019 it fails. It works on W7 with Access 2013.

    No one has suggested that you check for missing references. Have you done that?

    You said you're using 2019, which is Office 16. Then why are you using Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.15.0;
    Shouldn't that be 16.0?
    Your Office and Access bitness is 32 as well?

    My machine W10, Access 2016 64Bit it fails. (Edit: Changed from 32 bit)

    My client's machine W10 Access 2019 if failed with both 32 and 64 bit.

    If I knew exactly what is should be I would have tried it. I will try now with 16.0.

    Sorry, I'm out of ideas. I'm using W10 Access 2016, Office 32 bit. If you've researched the error message and didn't get any further and want me/us to test it, post a db copy if you think that we could operate it.

    Have you talked to Quickbooks or Quickbooks forums with specific questions?
    If I recall correctly, June8 on this an other Access forums has some experience with Quickbooks and may be able to offer some advice or direction for more info.
