    Non-Numerical UID

So currently I'm working on a project and have the problem of importing historical data from an extremely outdated service. The imported data doesn't include a UID, and the older system is still being used so the first table cannot be changed or it will be overwritten by the system. However, the system doesn't include a UID, I tried concatenating all of the columns into a UID however it requires long text and so I can't use it to update the UID in other tables. So now I'm thinking of just using the name and giving it a -1 or -2 for whichever instance of the name it is. Any other ideas?

There is no single field that provides a unique identifier? There are dependent tables?

Provide a sample of data. If you want to provide db for analysis, follow instructions at bottom of my post.
How to attach file: http://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=70301 To provide db: copy, remove confidential data, run compact & repair, zip w/Windows Compression.
