    Best report design

Hi all, using access 2016...I have a query with over 30 fields that the user usually exports to excel for review...one team wants to see the query results in a report..I told them this could look crowded...can anyone suggest the best design to put all the fields on the report without making the data so small that no one can see..Thanks

One suggestion would be to use landscape over portrait orientation. Another might be to break up controls into indented rows, in which case you'd indent the labels in a header just above the detail section. Thus you'd have something like

    LABEL1 LABEL2 LABEL3
    LABEL4 LABEL5 LABEL6
    DATA1 DATA2 DATA3
    DATA4 DATA5 DATA6

You realize the data doesn't have to be all on one line? It can be on two or three, with some logical grouping.

Hi ...thanks for responding..i actually do have 3 lines like u suggested but it still looks cluttered...I couldn't find any sample reports with multiple lines for this many fields that I can view to ensure my vision...have you seen something like this anywhere?

I'd say it's not so much the number of fields as it is about their combined width. Beyond what I already suggested I can only add to consider minimizing your margins and maybe also using 8.5 x 14" paper (called foolscap in my day; not sure what it's called now). If it's still too crowded you might be able to keep widths a bit narrower and use Can Grow property of text field controls, but that will increase the heights of those rows.

Reports are like finger prints in a way (unique). Each is specific to the needs, data and perception of what looks good to the end users and designers. I think you will just have to create something and see what feedback you get. If they don't like it, they need to tell you how to alter it or put up with the best you can do.
