MS Access DB does not open

    Hello All,

This might be a common issue, but I am not able to fix it.

I am trying to open an Access database from a folder path and it throws the below error:

"Microsoft Access can't find the database file '<DB Path Here>'. Make sure you entered the correct path and file name."

The database file is not a shortcut and the DB does exists. Not sure if this could be a permission issue, as I am able to create a Notepad (txt) file and save changes to it at the same location.

    Thank you,

Possibly corruption. Try decompiling the database http://www.fmsinc.com/microsoftacces.../Decompile.asp

I could be corruption, tho I've never seen that message for a file that does exist.
And you are sure its a file you've opened before, because you could get that error if you are trying to open a db made from a newer version of Access, in an older version of access. (open a 2016 db using Access 2010)?

you dbl-clicked the file and it failed?
you opened access from the access startup icon, THEN menu: file, open the db?

if both fail, and both access and the db file are in the same version, the it is corruption. Hope you have a backup.

    I don't think its a version issue.
If you try to open a A97 file or earlier in A2013 or later, you will get a different message about file formats.
Similarly if you try to use e.g. A2010 to open e.g. a A2016 file with support for bigint datatype, it will fail with a message about the minimum version needed for that file.

Which comes back to likely corruption.
If its corrupted code, decompiling should fix it.
If corrupted data, then try importing all objects into a new blank database...if it allows that

It is not a version issue. Also by opening with a double click or open access>file>open, I got the same error.

I tried to decompile, and after selecting the database (to decompile), I got a permission error: "You don't have permission to open this file. Contact the file owner or an administrator to obtain permission."

Next try importing all objects into a new database.
