New to Access and need recommendations on my database design

As the title states, I am relatively new to Access and have just been given a project with quick turn around time. Basically the following is what will be going on - or what they would like to happen:

    1. Access assigns a task due in 5 days for leadership to assess processes.
    a. automatically assign people to assess
    b. different levels of management will assess at different intervals - ex. Sr. managers two month, Engineers 1 a week
    c. send the tasks to Outlook
    2. Assessment is entered into database
    3. If needed, follow up actions are assigned
    4. Follow up actions are tracked

Of course there will be reporting but I am more concerned with the initial setup right now. I intend to do my research and training but any advice to help speed this along since I am in a time crunch will be very much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance - Cindy

First thing to do is identify data entities and relationships.

    Hi Cindy

You say:- "automatically assign people to assess"

So I take it you have specific people assigned to assess specific tasks?

    Cindy,

Further to the advice of June and Mike, here's a link to several articles re Database Planning and Design.
Don't be too quick to jump into a physical Access database. Work with your requirements, mock up some data,
create a model with pencil and paper, it will help you identify all the "things" involved and how they fit together.
It is much easier to change things when working and testing a paper based model than a "physical database".

Work through 1 of the tutorials from RogersAccessLibrary mentioned in the link. It will help with concepts, requirements and modeling. Perhaps the best value for 30-45 minutes spent on learning about database.

    Good luck with your project.

Hi - I will have a list of assessors and a list of those they will "assess". Basically they will talk to them about the process they are preforming to evaluate the instructions and any suggestions they have for improvements.

    Hi
Can you upload a zipped copy of your current database so we can see your relationships?
