Parameter Value for Reports - Can't type new information into text box :-(

HI There -I'm new to this forum so apologies if this has been asked before but couldn't find this specific problem. I'm working on Windows 10 with Access 2016.

I've made a report based on 2 different scenarios to make sure I got it wrong both times - one using a table and the second one using a query. In both cases when I try to input a product code i get the message "The control cannot be edited. The reports are read-only."

I've used the Control Source =[Reports]![Table or Query Name]![ProductID]. The ProductID is an unique identifier as there are not 2 the same.

    Thanks in advance

Step back and describe what you are trying to do in simple, plain English --no database terms and no jargon.
Then, show us a graphic of your relationships.

    Reports are for output/printing.
Tables are for storing data --that's where data resides.
Query(s) act on 1 or more tables.
Forms are like "windows" to look at/present data. Forms are where user interaction(s) occur.

A control with an expression cannot be typed in. A control on a report can never be typed in.

If you want to provide db for analysis, follow instructions at bottom of my post.
How to attach file: http://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=70301 To provide db: copy, remove confidential data, run compact & repair, zip w/Windows Compression.
