    Unhappy Access File not Compatible

Whenever I attempt to access a file on the CD that came with Access 2000 Bible I get the error message,'

" the version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows you are running.Check with your computers system
info to see whether you need an x86 or x64 version of the program."

I understand not being compatible, but I dont understand why not. I know Access 2000 is dated however why wouldn't my system (Windows 10) be able to read the practice files. Is there a work around??

    Thank you,,

    Richard

and the DB is not passworded? (sometimes its a false error because its passworded)
and the Access version you are using is newer or equal to the version of the Db?

    is your PC 64 bit?
    is the Access version 64bit?

It looks like you're trying to run an .EXE program, probably the install program to copy the VBA examples into a folder.
Instead of double clicking the .EXE, try right clicking and investigate "troubleshoot compatibility".

The DB version is Access 2000. The files are the practice files on the CD that came with the book "Access 2000 Bible" by Cary Prague.
The version of Access was installed from licensed copy of Office.Nothing is pass word protected. The files in question are the practice files to follow along with book.I did the right click and explored the trouble shooter,,no luck there. This would make sense if I were attempting to read a new DB with an older version of Access, which is NOT the case. My PC is 64 bit,Im not sure about the version of Access. I do wonder why
    "practice "files are EXE.

Thank you both for the response.

AFAIC, exe would have nothing to do with Access versions because exe is an executable and is not related to any version of Access databases. Thus it's likely a Windows issue but the message may be misleading. I have never seen the CD, so have to wonder if the sample db's are not just mdb or accdb files that you can open from the cd instead. Note that any cd file is automatically read only, so if you do copy mdb/accdb files to main disk, reset the property.

I think davegri may be on the right track.
Then, I googled and found some info on Access 2000 Bible.
This may be relevant (highlighted). Good luck.
