Connection issues to MySQL server: waiting for initial communication packet

    Hi,

I am having a weird error trying to connect a a remote MySQL server. Here is what I do:
    1. I go to External Data tab and select MySQL source, and add a new Machine Data Source.
    2. I enter all the data in the required fields and hit TEST. (when I select the dropdown for select a table, I get a list of tables within that table)
    3. Access completely freezes for 1-2 minutes and then I get a CONNECTION SUCCESSFUL message.

    4. Once added to the list sources, I select it and then Access freezes again.
    5. A few minutes go by, and get the following error: Lost connection to MySql server at 'waiting for initial communication packet', system error: 10060 (#2013)

I tried another free sql server and it worked, I can edit the table within Access. My hoster (siteground.com) says that there are no issues on their end. Click image for larger version.

As you have made a connection earlier, I presume the user account you use has the necessary rights for remote access, so I I think you get a time-out error there.

It's timing out due to being over an external WAN I'm guessing?
Access doesn't enjoy the connectivity over a WAN, see if you can increase the time outs, and make sure you connected directly to your network, not wirelessly.
