new to access and dont know if it will meet my needs

So what i am looking for is software that up to 30 people can log into and change only the fields they have access to and log and timestamp who made what changes to the database.

I have never used Microsoft Access but am hoping it will work for what i am needing.
Please give feedback and let me know if im looking in the right direction.

Yes, Access can certainly do that. Note however, that Access has a steep learning curve. So creating a well-designed database isn't something you can whip up quickly in Access if you are unfamilair with Access and Relational Database design. You will need to take the time to educate yourself first, in both Access and Relational Database design (most specifically, the Rules of Normalization).

Thank you JoeM for your quick reply.
    That is great news.
I am not familiar with access or database design but there are a few at my company that do.
Just wanted to be sure it would fit my needs before running it up the ladder.

You are welcome. Yes, Access handles the multi-user environment MUCH better than Excel does.
Just be sure to "split" the database into separate Front-End and Back-End in a multi-user environment to avoid conflicts and corruption.
In such an environment, there is one central back-end database that holds all the data, and everyone has their own copy of the front-end, which contains all Forms, Queries, Reports, VBA code, etc.

There are lots of articles out there that describe how to split your database, such as:
