you're not showing the file extension. Is it TemplateAssetManager.laccd? If so, it is the database locking information file. When you close db, Access should automatically delete it.
Just clicked - you are prevented from opening which file?
The more we hear silence, the more we begin to think about our value in this universe.
Paraphrase of Professor Brian Cox.
Hi Micron, yes, the extension is .laccdb. but it only appeared after I clicked the .accdb file first.
If I open Access then the file, Access opens it fine. And when I close the file using Access the 1k locked file vanishes. It seems I should only open my files after Opening Access first. Thx.
I don't understand what your problem is/was. The lock file appears whether you open Access first and select the file, or open the db from Windows file Explorer.
Then when you close Access, lock file is deleted regardless of which way the database. Perhaps by not displaying your file extensions in Explorer you were trying to open a db that is already open? Without the extension how would you know which is which?
Micron, I used to be able to click an Access file and it would just open in Access, but now when I click a file, nothing happens except a new file appears of the same name with a lock on it. I'd not had that happen before. Maybe it's something new that happens with the latest upgrade. Not sure.
You may have a hidden instance of Access open. Suggest you check carefully in Task Manager and if you find any listings for MSAccess, end the task.
Alternatively reboot and then try again.
fer sure it's not an Access problem but a Windows one. I'm no expert there, and you might be better off using a search term to research your issue. Could be as Colin says, or there might be a setting to open an application minimized. I know that is an option for shortcuts but I don't think it applies to files opened from File Explorer. If you find an instance of Access running in task manager, it's might be because you just opened a database. I would not suggest you use that method to close Access unless you are fairly certain it's not there because you opened a file.
