Stupid Graphs or Stupid User.... you decide

Right. I am using MS Access 2016. It used to be you could double click the chart area and manipulate individual items, I can no longer do that only the 'chart setting' window is available. In this case, I want the x axis to have vertical values and horizontal group labels. I can't for the life of me figure out how to get MS access to do this through the charting tool I can only get both labels to be vertical or horizontal. Can anyone help me navigate this obstacle? I've fiddled with the properties for over an hour and I can't see how the primary and secondary axis labels can be altered independently of one another.

    This is my dataset

IIRC this is one of the many weaknesses of the new 'modern’ charts supplied with A365.
Another issue is that modern charts do not display for any users with previous versions of Access.
However the old style charting interface is still available. Why not use that instead?

HAH, simple as that, I didn't even look for the old tool. You're a gem isladogs!

EDIT: well the more 'basic' version doesn't appear to allow dual x axis labels so I'm back to the original problem unless you know a way via vba to add a second x axis label.

Alternately I'm trying to find a way via vba to rotate the secondary axis label using the 'new' tool but so far not much luck.

    You're welcome.
I have given up on the new charts as there were several things that seem impossible.
The final straw was when I realised they weren't backward compatible.

Even the old MSGraph tool does not have this capability. However, appears old PivotCharts did.

Sorry June but that's incorrect. Depending on the type of chart you can indeed have a secondary y-axis.
I should be able to supply my own examples if needed tomorrow but for now see this link https://sfmagazine.com/post-entry/ma...econdary-axis/

    I know about second Y-axis.

OP asked for secondary X-axis labels. See second level labels in image - multi-tier categories.

I am still in Access 2010 and AFAIK a secondary X-axis label set is not available. However, according to this https://support.office.com/en-us/art...6-4ecb737ea7f7 it might be possible in the Modern Chart utility implemented with Office 365.

Yep, that was the original problem. I could get a secondary X axis label but I can't get it to show horizontally, it's all defaulting to vertical where I'd like the individual tic marks to be vertical, the major groups to be horizontal. As far as I know it's the same damn graphing tool in excel so I don't know why I can't seem to figure out how to manipulate them independent of one another.

No, I'm still in Access 2016 for this particular item.
