API to find City,State given a zip code

There seems to be a variety of approaches listed online about obtaining the name of the city and state given a zip code, most seem to focus on interfaces for web designers. Does anyone have a simple API based function they're willing to share?

    Bill,

I'm not sure what you're looking for exactly. If you google "free online zip to city state", you'll get a number of hits.
USPS , Melissa and zip-codes seem to satisfy the need, but each would require you to interface with their web site.

This site says it has a free zipcode database for download, but it appears to have been set up in 2012 ( I have not used it so can not comment further).
    Good luck.

Allen's USA list is a bit out-of-date and a whole lot more than what's needed and would add more than 4MB to the size of the app. I could table a subset of what Allen has for a couple of western states and save the rest in an external auxiliary file if a zip code comes out of the blue I've not got tabled. That would be rare but manageable.

I'd rather have a clean function I can pass a zip code in a call from VBA.
