Outlook.com V GMail. Your opinions please

I have three devices. A PC running on Windows 7, A lap top running Windows 10 and an Android phone.

I would like to share my data, "Mail and Contacts" among the three devices.

Both Outlook.com, and G Mail have their advantages and disadvantages.

Which program would you use to standardise mail etc.

Outlook may be the simplest to code with because of Office interoperability.

However, Microsoft Outlook (or another electronic mail application that uses the Mail Applications Programming Interface (MAPI) to broadcast your email) can be an issue because Windows security intercepts each MAPI message and prompts the user for confirmation. Avoiding this prompt requires setting Outlook (or other app) security settings to low and virus protection updates must be current. CDO automation with Gmail might avoid this.

Thanks for that. Very interesting. I did not know this.

However this has not caused any problems in the past so I guess what my question is now "Which system would you use" or perhaps the Android could be different to the others.

There are two main issues I have experienced. One is Contacts and the other is my Diary. I need to be able to update in one place or both and have that new information shared with the other devices.

Access can link to Outlook folders. Again, VBA code can manipulate Outlook Contacts https://www.devhut.net/2010/09/03/vb...tlook-contact/. I don't know what Diary is.

You have PC software to sync Outlook with Android?

A Diary is a book where you keep appointments on a daily basis.

Also it is used for keeping notes. The equal is CALENDAR.

I am really wanting to know which platform would you use. GMail or Outlook.

Use Outlook, and get Outlook for Android and it will all sync seamlessly I think.

I believe you can then make your default Android calendar and contacts sync to that as well.

    Minty

I believe you have given me some good advice.

I would like to Clarify a few points.

First you stated " and get Outlook for Android" When installing on the phone does it not automatically use the app that is made especially for phones. In a similar manner when loading on the Computer does it not use the "outlook.com" made especially for PCs, Lap Tops etc

A couple of other questions later

I think you can change the default mail client on both the phone and the PC to use whatever app you decide on.

Until a Windows / Android update decides otherwise...

I am going to reformat all 3 devices. This will take ages as I have to back up all my data first.

So you may not hear from me for a while.

One more question before I continue with the Formating.

Where does Outlook.com keep its data. Contacts mail calendar etc.

I would think that it is in the cloud as I can open any device and receive the latest Mail.

Yup it's effectively a web based client.
Think of it like a slightly stripped down version of the Click to run office apps.
