    Indexing question

I work for a Managed Service provider and do not have much experience with Access.

One of our Customers has an Access 2016 database that is split so multiple user can work with it.
The backend is on a server and the front end is located in a share on the same server
The customer has tried to clean up and simply the database
It has at least 1 index and they have done a compact and repair to the database.
We are checking to make sure it is excluded from Webroot scans

My question is, does the database re-index each time it is opened? if not, would it help to re-index and if so can someone walk me through the process?

    Thank you,

A separate front end should be on each users PC. Front end should not be shared.

What exactly is the issue you are trying to resolve?

They are trying to reduce the time it takes to open the database
The primary person says it opens in about 3 seconds but a second user takes about 40 seconds.

You may get some ideas from this info from FMS , and this.
As I said, each user should have his own copy of the front end.

if the front end is located on the server, it will take longer because not only are you bringing data across, you are also bringing across the forms etc.
front end is located in a share on the same server
sharing the front end will not only impact performance but brings a high risk of corruption. As Orange says - front ends should not be shared, each user should have their own local copy.

See this link about improving performance
    https://www.access-programmers.co.uk...d.php?t=291269

which also includes a link about indexing

    in answer to your questions

does the database re-index each time it is opened?
    No
if not, would it help to re-index
No - but see link above
