    New to Forum

    Hi all,

I got tired of using excel to track data and decided to relearn access. I used it years ago but only scratched the surface, now I'm at a place where I have challenges that are hard to solve with tutorials and might have enough knowledge to contribute to the group.

    Cheers,

    Shannon

    Welcome to the Board!

If you are designing your own databases, I strongly recommend that in addition to learning all the ins and outs of Microsoft Access, you also brush up on Relational Database Theory and the Rules of Normalization. Some years ago, when I was designing my first "real" database in Access, I tried it without this knowledge, and spun my wheels for quite a while (and kept programmning myself in corners). Someone pointed me in that direction, and I realized that my tables were not normalized. I scrapped everything, and started over, and had much better luck the second time around. It is imperative to create properly normalized tables! You can find lots of information on it via Google Searches (lots of tutorials, videos, etc).
