ODBC Data Source (ODBC or SQl Native Client)

    Hello Everyone,

Im new to the forum and hope somebody can help.

Im developing my first MS Access DB with a SQL 2017 BE.

When i set-up the Data Source i have a few options that work. 2 in particular:

ODBC Driver 13 for SQL Server
    SQL Server Native Client 11.0

Which option would you suggest i opt for when setting up users?
(are there any considerations / performance benefits etc..)

    Any advice very welcome!
    Kind regards

Assuming you are in a corporate environment I would check what they have installed by default on the end users systems.
I decided to develop with and use native client 11, only to find it needed installing on everyone's machine.

By inclination I would generally always use the latest compatible driver as it will generally perform better, and support newer features better.

Thanks for reply - its small corporate (6 users) - all will eventually all be on windows 10 pro o/s. (but not now). There are no standard builds & i will have to add the drives.

Knowing that ... is there a difference between the 2 below (they sound quite different but both achieve the same thing)

ODBC Driver 13 for SQL Server

    SQL Server Native Client 11.0

    Kind regards
    Dan

This page has some very in depth answers https://stackoverflow.com/questions/...r-odbc-drivers
No point in me trying to elaborate on that lot !

However the latest is the ODBC Driver 13 for SQL Server and seems to be where Microsoft is pointing you.
