    Database error

I have a database done with MS 2003 that I have been using for several years with some changes and modification along the way. All of a sudden I am getting an error message "field cannot be updated". In this version, all I did was add a 5 new fields and modify some forms and reports. Is there someone out there that I can send the DB file to that can help resolve the error issue????? HELP! If so, please contact me by email (baldcamper@yahoo.com) and I will send the file.

You could just zip it and post it here. Any number of members might then try to help you.

Sorry Bob, open the db and try to enter a new registration. when you enter a number in the index. I was using the number 10. I think I left 5 records in the db. The error occurs as soon as you type the number. I will pm my cel phone # for a conversation if that will help.

I know that you are working with Bob, but I wanted to put in my $0.02 before I go home.

"Index" (the PK field) is a reserved word in Access and shouldn't be used for object names.
"Table" is also a reserved word (last field in table)

In the field "Rig", you have it set up as a look up field as a "Row Source Type" of Table/Query.
The "Row Source Type" should be "Value List". (bet Look up fields are EVIL )

Shouldn't use special characters (or spaces) in names. "Check #" should be "CheckNum".

I think that the form is corrupt because I can use the table or a query to enter/modify data. (could be wrong )
IN A COPY of the dB, delete the form, do a compact and repair, shut down the dB/Access.
Open the dB. Create a new form with the same row source/fields............

I looked at the db this morning and came to the same conclusion as Steve regarding the forms corruption and how to deal with it.
I would also agree about the other things that he mentioned.

I've also taken a look and agree the form is corrupt. Also agree about naming conventions - see this link

in particular note the following which quotes a message very similar to the one you are receiving:

The error messages you receive don't necessarily tell you that a reserved word is the cause of the problem. As a result, it can be difficult to identify what needs to be changed. For example, Access might display a message similar to the following:
The wizard was unable to preview your report, possibly because a table needed by your report is exclusively locked.
