When you run an append query, Access does create a temporary table (otherwise, cancel would not be an option). However, it gets a unique name, it is not in the list of tables while it's running, and of course disappears once it's complete.

I don't see any reference to that "table" name in your SQL. Could you post the db?

Unfortunately I cannot post the whole DB for confidentiality reasons. Here is a shot of the actual error message.

The table name referenced is the name of the append query.

Possibly corruption. Try each of the following in turn
    1. Tick Show Hidden Objects and check whether a table does exist with that name.
    2. Rename your query and see if the problem goes away.
    3. Decompile your database to remove any corrupt compilation code. Then recompile and finally compact.
