format of Excel to Access

Is that true that the format in Excel of the field will not carry to Access??

For example , i have date field in Excel and when i export to Access, it became Text?!



How can i fix it ?

no cell formatting crosses over. (number formats do: integer,real,etc)
dates are not text. They are numbers.

IF you import the excel into access, have a table already designed for date format
sometimes excel is confused. Dont import to a new table. append to existing formated table.
