Question SQL Server Tables as Link Tables within Access, Then ODBC from Access out to systems not working

    Greetings all,

We are in the middle of a long term project to migrate away from Access dbs that currently play the part of database back-ends to several websites and other systems. As a middle step to get things running we have mimicked the Access db tables in SQL Server and created link tables within an Access db thus creating a doppelganger Access db to the original, but with link tables only.

When we play the Indiana Jones swap (classic reference!!) renaming the original Access db to _bak and giving the link table Access db the original name we have mix results. The html code seems to work for querying, but anything that ODBC connects the the Access db fails saying ODBC-connection to 'Web' failed. Web being the name of the ODBC connection.

So is this possible or are we trying to be too clever? If this is possible your help is getting our new interim solution up and running is greatly appreciated.

Please clarify your actual environment (previous and new) and where HTML is involved.

As Orange said, might need to clarify the issue. So you can query data in the Access db using the new linked SQL tables or no? If you link in the sQL tables, you can rename them to be same as what the Access Linked table names were and your processes should still work. Click on your SQL linked tables and make sure you can open all of them.

Please reply to this thread with any new information or opinions.
