Help with Excel vlookup alternative in Access

    Hello everyone,

I am very new to Access, so, may be I am over complicating things (hopefully).

    So, here is the situation:

I have two tables: Master and Dict. Master table has a lot of columns of which one is Symbol. Dict table has 4 columns of which one is Symbol as well. Symbol column in Dict has only unique values. Symbol column in Master has hundreds of thousands of values which are not unique.

Now I have another column in Master that is called Presence in which I need to identify if the value for this row in the Symbol column could be found in Symbol column in Dict table.

Let's say in Excel I would go wqith following logic : if vlookup of the value in master.Symbol is not N/A return 1 else return nothing.

    Thank you in advance

Build a query that joins the tables on the common Symbol fields. Use join type 'include all records from Master and only those from Dict that match'. If there is a Symbol in Master not in Dict then Dict.Symbol field will be Null in the query.

You might even look at the 'Find Unmatched' query in the query wizard.
