Can't find a recently dated post regarding ENTER key behavior

In A2013 I can't get the ENTER key to STOP going to the NEXT LINE. The text box property is set to DEFAULT and I've changed the "Client Settings" in every way I can think of but without any success.

What I'd like is for the cursor to remain at the end of the current line of text NOT go to next line.

    Any suggestions?

    HAPPY NEW YEAR Paul.

No. I have an unbound text box into which a default text string is inserted under certain conditions. I need to give the user the opportunity to either remove or change the default pertaining to the condition by holding down the Ctrl-key and pressing the ENTER key. The OnKeyDown fires okay but two situations arise that won't make the user interface acceptable: 1) The text box becomes blank because the default is "move to next line" and 2) The unbound text box is not yet reflecting any changes made to the text string as viewed from the event code allowing me to configure an appropriate message text string to be presented to the user for confirmation of the implied action to be taken.
