    Using Advanced Search - Problem?

When I use the Advanced Search and include my user name, I will usually get a big goose egg.

For instance, I can search using 'Outlook' as a keyword. It will return multiple threads. I can identify several threads that I am subscribed to. When I open one of the threads and look at my posts within, I see the word 'Outlook' included in my posts.

Then, when I search using Outlook as a keyword and ItsMe as a User Name, I get "Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms."

Does anyone else experience the same thing? It is a little sad to me because I have code snippets in this forum that I will sometimes use as reference.

Yes, I have seen some issues also. I recall working with a poster on IT Inventory. He was intent on constantly changing the PK of a table to shoe an item in different locations.

I tried searching for it and other things (as you say you know you posted to the forum) but came up empty.

My guess is that posts and attachments may be purged after some period of time (or lack of use).
I don't know what maintenance activities like this occur.

In my list of posts, the oldest is July 20/2016?

That would make sense if it was a specific cut-off date. For instance, I know attachments of a certain age were purged. But that does not seem to fit when I can do the same search without my user name.

I just tried to find some older post without adding my username to the search --it was found.

What I also saw recently was ---when you put a link in a post to eg

You may find this video of some use. see post#6 at
    https://www.accessforums.net/forms/ho...ory-42524.html

Try it you just get a long list (like an archive) of pages.

Also I searched for HORSE -- I know I helped someone and offered a data model a few years back. If I use my username --Nothing

But just using Horse (no username). I found it.

I'm not sure what this means exactly. Seems like a basic issue with Search????

    After posting...
PS: I did find the IT Inventory stuff when I removed my username from the search.
keyword was "awkward". I searched the result set and found this

My guess it is an indexing issue but we'll have to let Matrix handle this one. I'll put the bug in his ear.

Sorry for the inconvenience. The Advanced search seems to have some known issues, I always click "Search Single Content Type" before I make any search. I just made it the default option, now if you click "Advanced Search", it goes to "Search Single Content Type" directly.

No, we didn't purge old threads, but the maximum search result is 500, to get very old result, you need to use more search fields such as date.

Thanks Matrix. That will help a lot! I didn't think we purged old records so it had to be something else.

Thanks Matrix. Purge was a (poor) guess on my part. But when you know something was done and you can't find it via search, you start to rationalize. Finding the item when I removed my username seemed contrary to the intent - but it worked (as ItsMe found).
Thanks for reviewing and adjusting the default. It works fine now!!

    @Matrix
FYI, the following link to does not load your new default options thing.
    https://www.accessforums.net/search.php

I can't remember where I clicked, but I believe that is the address used when linking from the results page.

Yes, you are right, if the URL is https://www.accessforums.net/search.php, it's in "Search Multiple Content Types" mode, you need to click "Search Single Content Type" to switch to Single content mode; if the URL is https://www.accessforums.net/search.php?search_type=1, you are in "Search Single Content Type".

Anyway, just make sure you are in "Search Single Content Type", the search will work correctly. Besides the URL difference, the first field is also different: in Single content mode, "Search Types" is a drop down menu, in Multi content mode, it's a multi-selection box.

If you don't want to remember the differences, just click "search single content type" before every new search, it's what I do

I agree that when I click the link posted by ItsMe I don't get the default Single Content Type.
But when I click Advanced Search, and when I click a Forum->Search Forum->Advanced Search it gives me the correct default Single Content Type.

    Not sure what ItsMe clicked.

    OOooops: Late in posting...

Ok, I can see clearly now.

I was clicking Search from the breadcrumb navigation menu (the breadcrumb available on the search results page). Doing so defaulted to the "Search Multiple Content Types". This is unlike the Advanced Search link.
