I'm trying to get a combo to select all and have looked at a few pages but I'm just not getting or understanding something. I've been looking at mvps.org that has a page on it
    http://access.mvps.org/access/forms/frm0043.htm

any help is appreciated, i have a sample attached.

the combo should use a table that has:
    CAPTION, QRY
user can only see the 1st col.

user picks "(All)", but the query that runs is hidden. The combo is bound to col2, so then
    the combo afterupdate =
    docmd.openquery cboBox

Not sure where you are headed with this, but try the combo box.

I modified the query "TestQ" to deal with the NULL.

Thank you everyone. I think ranman either intentionally or not hit the nail on the head. What i wasn't seeing was the importance of the afterupdate event for this to work.
Steve, nice work on the query, i'm not an expert or a novice, I've done a lot of research to get where i am with my limited knowledge but that's one I've never seen with the new column in the query the way you did it. is that just a inside trick you hold to your self or is there something there that i need to learn how to do, i like it.
Orange, thank you for uploading that example, i actually had it and was using it and one from KenHigg as examples of how to do it. just wasn't grasping the last pie of the information to make it work. please continue giving us sample databases, i have a large file of them that anytime i need to so something new i go to, i learn better from examples or errors than reading

    @vicsaccess

Wish I could take credit for that column.
In the criteria row for the column "LocationID", I actually had
    Code:
    [forms]![TestF]![cboLocationID] OR [forms]![TestF]![cboLocationID] Is NULL
Access created the new column and put the "IS NULL" on a separate criteria line.
I have used this technique before, but this time it was Access that changed the query.
