Post Link Master Field and Link Child Field

The question is about master field and child field in a form-subform layout. Do the fields involved in this structure have to be actually placed on the form as textboxes (or whatever control)? Or is it enough that they are simply included in the record source of the form and subform?

    Thanks.

    Hi Joe,

The Master - Child field link is held in the subform control. Usually when linking forms/subforms, you use the Primary & foreign keys from the underlying record sources to do so. (Primary key for subform, and foreign key for form.) Also, you would usually use an autonumber field as the Primary key, thus freeing you from having to manually provide a key for the record. If this is how you have set things up, then as long as the tables/queries supplying the form and subform have the linking field present, you won't need to display the field as a textbox in either the form or subform.

    Thanks Connexionlost!

I see. Got it. So it's just optional to display the fields (fields involved in the master-child relationship) in the forms as textbox controls. Thanks for the answer!
