Access databases running under Office 2000,2002,2003,2007,2010 and 2013

I have an Access 2000 database, using vba code to do extensive mail-merging. I have customers who use the database on all versions of Access. In references, I sometimes see Microsoft Visual Basic for Application Extensibility 5.3 and sometimes not.

Could anyone explain how this reference is helping the database, and therefore help me understand, if I should force it to be in refrences.
    Thanks.

In the most recent version of the software, when it is being shared I am seeing the following message.
" You do not have exclusive access to the database at this time. If you proceed to make changes, you may not be able to save them later." Data can be entered and saved, but design changes will not be saved.

In trying to test what is happening, if I open the database on a second machine, it actually lets me change the same record that is open on the first machine without any error message, If I open the database on the second machine first, it will not let me open it at all on the second machine.

every pc could be different. you wont know its missing something until you open the db on it.
THEN you can view the references to see whats missing and correct it.
    you cant automate it.

Ok, I understand what you are saying. I can add the reference but it will not stay there if it is not required. I would like to understand why it is needed in some but not all, but perhaps that is for another day. It seems like a specific Microsoft Access reference from its wording. Thanks for your help.

Different versions of Access will have different libraries baked in. If a library is already included within a specific version, it will not be available as an option to reference.
