    just open your existing table in design view and add a pk autonumber field and save then use the query as I posted in #9, changing any names to suit (should just be the table name)

    June, I would need to write a delete query to delete the records after I use them from the 'temp' table for a purge to take place, right? I have used some macros other people have written in Access, where there is a delete of the records at the end of the process (and they therefore aren't there the next month when I run the macro again). I could build that into my database at the end. I am running out of space all the time in my Access table and having to Compact regularly, so less records would mean more space. Thank you for the suggestion! I am leaving for the weekend but will pick up with my Access database Monday. Thanks again for your help it is very much appreciated.

    How do I go about setting the field type as autonumber for my PK field? Ty!
