I am new to access, and tried looking around to figure out how to do what I looking to do but don't know enough about programing to understand what I really need to do.
I have a table with multiple fields, and i have a form where i update and create new records.
One field in the form I would like to auto populate based on the selection in another field.
The field I select is a product family field (home, car, boat, etc)
The field that I want to auto populate has case number in the format of a two digits a dash and then three or four digits (a1-123, 55-8547, etc)
I would like the case number field to auto populate in my form after I select the the product family class.
The case number field the first two digits correspond to the product family class and I have a separate table with them.
I understand that I have to lookup the two digit code and then look in my database to see what the last value is and add one to it.
I just don't know how to go about doing it. macro, query, expression builder, etc. I am sure this has been done a million times and i will smake my head once i see how it should be done.
My programs skill are poor at best.
