Hi, i want to use to count how many times a record is displayed in the period and lesson field, in another table, so that this data can be used to show how many people are attending a class. e.g how many times people are attending art 1, by counting how many times art one appeared in the first table. I haven't really explained this brilliantly but the pictures may make more sense of it.

Have you tried creating a Query using the Query Designer? A totals query may provide the results you desire. You can create a totals query by clicking the Sigma symbol from within the query designer. When you add fields to your query, you can count a specific field by changing "Group By" to "Count".
