MS Access Template DB Goods - Customer ID

I have limited experience with Access. I am using the MS Access template Goods. Here is a link if you want to see it.

    https://support.office.com/en-in/art...d-10cf02d7d76d

I have it set up for my business and it is doing what I need. However, a few weeks ago when I entered a new customer it created a negative customer ID. This is not a problem, however, I was concerned that there is only a limited number of IDs I can create. Is there a way to check this? Is there a way to make the ID a positive number.

Any direction or help someone can provide will be greatly appreciated.

For some reason I can't download the template to take a look at it.

If you look at the Table in Design View, what is the data type of the ID column? If it's the "Data Type" is either Autonumber or Number and the "Field Size" is Long Integer you should have practically limitless positive numbers to deal with (max of 2,147,483,647).

Thank you for the suggestion. In the Table in Design View, the "Data Type" is Autonumber and the "Field Size" is Long Integer. SO it is good to know that I have limitless positive numbers.

When I select the NEW account button, the number generates a negative number. Can someone tell me how to change this to a positive number? When I open the table in the Design view it says, can't be modified or changed. Needs to be done in the Source Data Base. I am not sure how to find the source data base, I am not very knowledgeable in Access. (Perhaps this is not a big issue and I should just let it create negative numbers?) ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

Since it's Autonumber you might be out of luck. You can change those numbers but it takes a lot of work and can cause trouble. If you can provide a copy of the DB, I can take a look at it and maybe resolve the issue for you, but unless you know about Access and VBA coding, I'd strongly suggest you not try anything yourself as messing up that column could break your entire DB.

If you do feel comfortable making changes on your own, I can point you towards a few resources that might help you out.

I noticed that the Goods database is a web template database. Don't know if that is relevant to the issue???

    orange, good catch.

I have never dealt with web databases in Access. If the front-end is run from a web browser (or is anything other than an ACCDB/MDB) I probably won't be able to help.

    Ditto on Access -web database.

Perhaps GManci can tell us more about the database and interfaces since he/she said
I have it set up for my business and it is doing what I need.

    Rawb,
Based on what you are telling me I can l create new accounts with the autonumber creating negative ID numbers and I won't run out of space adding new accounts. Correct? If this is the case I will just leave it as is and not possibly create problems by trying to fix it. My original concern was that I won't run out of space, the negative ID is not a problem for me. Please confirm that my assumptions are correct. Thank you!

    Gmanci,

Are you running this as a web application? Or Desktop?
