db went from 17 mb to 5.47 mb--caused by Compact & Repair?

I was looking for tools to unclick a missing reference to utility and clicked on compact & repair. I later found that my db file went from 17 mb to 5.47 mb. Did Compact do this or should I be looking for another cause? The db looks intact and works fine. Thanks.

It is likely that the Compact did that; I wouldn't worry about it. It's a healthy thing to do now and then.

Most probably it did by the compact and the best part is that database working file.

Here's a reference to Compact and Repair. You should read it and see the what and why of Compact and Repair.

Thanks to all--Paul, Tanvi & Orange--your reassurances help me to reassure those who put these dbs into my ignorant & trigger-happy (not a good combo!) hands! Thanks too for the reference to Compact; I'm also watching Simon Allardice's data programming tutorials (which are really good, easy to follow--Orange's recommendation encouraged me) to learn more about this strange and interesting world...
