    Back-end read only in Homegroup

With two Win 7 Pro systems on a home network, I joined the two systems (#1 and #2) to a Homegroup. With the back-end mdb being on system #1, system #1 gave explicit read/write share authority to both the containing folder and the back-end mdb to members of the Homegroup. However, when system #2 launches the app, there's a failure as soon as the app attempts to make any kind of a change to the back-end.

Now, outside of the app, system #2 can read/write manipulate files within the folder that contains the back-end mdb, leading me to believe it's not a Win issue but rather an issue within Access.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Bill

    Zero experience with Homegroup.

Does each user run their own copy of the frontend?

Which computer is the backend on - #1? What is the drive designation? I presume the table links are drive letter mappings. How will the #2 user frontend copy find the path to the backend? Do they have a Windows mapping to the drive on #1?

Backend is on System #1. System #2's mde file is linked to backend tables via Access Link Mgr.

So the links are established in MDB sitting on #1 then published as MDE and copy put on user #2 computer?

Computer #2 has Windows drive mapping that reflects the link path?

    What is the path?

    Do forms/reports open with data?

"Do forms/reports open with data?" Yes

I put a copy of the source mdb on #2, link to the tables on #1 backend and compile to a mde. Then, put a shortcut on #2 to its mde file.

While I wouldn't recommend this arrangement in the general case, it's an appropriate arrangement in the current setting.

Sorry, everything sounds good, no idea why won't allow write. I have no way to test such an arrangement. This is the first thread ever seen involving Homegroup. Did a quick Bing search. Is this relevant: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/o...f-0c03adfacdf3

Both system #1 and #2 are hard-wired to the LAN, so some of the issues discussed in the thread you provided aren't relevant. Both #1 and #2 are Win 7 Pro and A2003 Pro. This is my first experience with "Homegroup". I'll try read/write share of the entire #1 c: drive using Workgroup with the primary user of #2 also installed as a user on #1.

As soon as I added the user on #2 to also be a user on #1 the problem went away. I don't know for sure if it's because #1 and #2 are both members of the Homegroup OR because they're both members of the same Workgroup. Not a pretty outcome in my view, but I have other "fish to fry" today.

    Thanks for your thoughts.
