If No content in report fields then shrink report's record-area?

    HI there,
I have many fields in my report because some records have content in those fields. Many, however do not. Rather than having blank space where there are fields with no information, separating the content of the report with much white space, I would like the report to shrink so that the next record's evenly spaced to the prior records content. Is this possible through formatting? Any suggestions?

Sounds like a potential normalization issue, but play with the Can Shrink properties of your textboxes and the section.

These fields are examples. I have examples 1-26 set up within my main table as each example only pertains to a particular record and none of them repeat. I want to display all examples in the report but condense the space when, say only 2 examples appear for a record. Still seem like a normalization issue? If they were in a separate table wouldn't I still need the same potential 26 text boxes to reference the content? Can Shrink and Grow properties seem to only be horizontally affecting the field and not permitting vertical shrinkage...
    The quest continues

I'm not clear on what's going on, but it sounds like you should have an examples table with the 26 examples, and a table related to the main table with a record for each example for that record. If a record had 2 examples, it would have 2 records in the related table. You could use a sub form/report to display, and it could automatically shrink and grow with the number of records. Almost like an invoice header/detail setup.

This sounds like it would solve this problem.
I'm a n00b and have been fumbling with normalization ALL WEEK.
I went from one table, to too many, now back to one. I'm going to re-think this normalization question.

I think you'll be happier in the long run. Normalization is the foundation the house is built on, the house being your application. One link among many:

pbaldy, thanks. I have just set up the examples table.
The examples have their own unique primary key and then a reference column to reference the primary table's primary key which matches for each example. When I'm setting up my query to run the report I'm only getting the first example of many. Why would this be the case?

    Problem with query results

With the current query set up I am only getting 207 results. The query I'm looking for will give results for each record example match (756 examples (Record Types) + 9 instances of the record types appearing twice = 765).
I think the problem is how the relationships are set up, but I have yet to resolve the problem....

With the Query Wizard I was suffering. I have now set up a query, as seen below, which gives the number of results equal to the number of examples (record types) = 756. Now I just need to get the remaining records pulled in. I will try by querying this query:

I have broken the duplicate examples into another table. this is producing the results that I was looking for in the query. When I run the report though, I am getting space galore, how would I report the info and condense this space?
