    Compact and repair

Read some info online and it sounds like something I should do to speed up my database however, if the database is split with a frontend and backend, which one do I apply the compact and repair to?

Also is there anything that I need to worry about when doing this process? Like compatibility issues with different versions of MS Office or other things? Of course I will make a backup before I start.

Compact & Repair is good for both parts.

Run C&R after design changes because db size can grow substantially during modification.

Running C&R on the backend probably doesn't have to be done very often. I do it only every once in a while. It might be more important if a lot of record deletion takes place and record deletion should be infrequent.

I just ran a C&R and how do you know if it was successful or not? Right after I clicked the Compact and Repair option, it just starts the database right after I click it with no prompts to let me know it went well. Does this mean it finished ok?

Sorry, I thought to do this moments after I posted. I just checked the size of the file that I applied the C&R to and it said 5.33MB and for the other file its reading 14.01MB. So I assume that the C&R went well. If you can confirm this, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

If the file size changes, can be certain C&R occurred. Large database can take noticeably longer to run C&R. Mine can take up to 30 seconds before reopens.
