Combbox / Filter Question

I have my filter working the way I want but I'm trying to figure out how I can open the form with a default value selected in the combobox?

The Combobox is named cboFilter and has three options, Active, Retired, and Surplused.

I want the combobox to have Active Selected when you first open the form up, so the filter will show the active assets, I've tried putting this in defaultvalue but it seems to not filter when the form loads?
