    Access has stopped working

I have a form (frm_intro) with various buttons on it which opens other forms keeping the first form in the background. This works fine. However when I added an unbound text box (box_keyword) to the form, so that a query upon which a form was based could read from it ([forms]![frm_intro]![box_keyword]), I ran into problems. At first this worked perfectly; however when I closed Access and re-opened it again I had a "Access Has Stopped Working" error, when I attempted to use one of the buttons to open another form (not the one on which the query read the form). I repeated this several times, and sometimes buttons worked and sometimes Access crashed. As soon as I removed the unbound text box the problem went away. I've tried this three times, always with the same result. I have successfully used this technique in the past with Access 2003 in XP, but I am now using Access 2007 in Vista (32 bit). Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Try repair and compacting your database, then add the textbox again, modifying your query accordingly.

Thanks, but I've already tried that without success. However, your suggestion reinforces my thought that there might be a problem with the form itself. I'll have ago at starting again with a new form and see how it goes.

I had a form with several tabs; all controls had conditional formatting; the form corrupted regularly until I removed the tabs.

Just to let you know that I have started the form from scratch and it works fine, so there wasn't a problem in what I was trying to do. I think that the problem must have been in some corrupted code in the form. Thanks for looking at my question and for the replies

Hi, I'm having the same problem with phillb too. Here's what I did...

I have an old project from Access 2003 (.mdb) file that I converted to Access 2010. I added a bunch of new codes and some modules into it. Everything seemed to look fine, compiles fine and then when I tested it I get that message. Now I can't even open to view the codes. I tried Compact and Repair, and I tried copying the tables and over to a new project I created. It will copy the tables but not the Forms and Modules.

How do I recover the codes I've lost in that project? I've spent many hours on that and I don't want to do it again.

    Thanks!!

    Did anyone try

    uninstalling KB979440.
I had the same issue, one database opened fine, the other got this error. I uninstalled everything and reinstalled. Everything worked. Then I started applying the updates and this error occurred right after installing update KB979440. I uninstalled that update and access stopped having the error and started functioning right.
    So, yeah.
