hyperlink no longer connects...

in a current version of a MDB, clicking on a hyperlink in a table no longer connects to the internet (?!)



I know for certain that it used to, so I opened an older version of the MDB (from a backup file), clicking does connect...
so somewhere along the way, I must have done "something" to the current file (and too much time has passed along the way to revert to the former...)
perplexed...

thoughts and suggestions (with many thanks in advance)

Did you try replacing the hyperlink?

Test replacing the value in the hyperlink field for one record. Right click in the hyperlink field to open the dialog and browse/navigate to whatever it is the hyperlink should open. Does this hyperlink now work?

hmm...
right-clicking to OPEN the link does nothing

but more significantly,
when I right-click and EDIT the link, I find that there is a "text to display", but the address is blank (at every record, and there are a lot of records! -UGH)
( I have a hunch on when / it happened; not at all sure why it happened; but more importantly, I need to now find an efficient way to fix it...)

all of the "Text To Display's" ARE ALWAYS the addresses, so it's a matter of opening each hyperlink in edit and copying the text to the address...

The hyperlink should still work without display part. However, if the # delimiter is also gone (http://www.allenbrowne.com/casu-09.html), the hyperlink is corrupted.

Can populate the field with an UPDATE or INSERT sql. So if you know what the parts are supposed to be (are they based on other values in table?), build the string and save in field.

If the link is created from other fields in table, don't even need hyperlink field. Review: http://allenbrowne.com/func-GoHyperlink.html

OK, makes sense

so basically, I need to create a query that copies the Text To Display portion of the field entry into the Address
do you know what a query like this would be? I'm only familiar with being able to replace the entire value of the field, hyperlinks are trickier (?) (and while I'm always willing to learn a new trick, a little direction would be a help - I'll also check out Allen Browne's link...)

Okay, I had it backwards. The text to display is there but the address part is gone. Is the # also gone? Try:

UPDATE tablename SET fieldname = fieldname & "#" & fieldname;
