Sharepoint?

Hi, I am basically a total newbie to the whole sharepoint scene. I have an access database that i would like to access from the internet as i need access to the database on the move. How would i go about this and what are the costs involved. Does a sharepoint site need specialist sharepoint hosting or can it be hosted on a normal websites hosting.

Any help, guidance and/or advice is greatly appreciated and will be taken on board.
